CCPA Privacy Policy.
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act and its 2023 update (the CPRA) give you a specific set of rights over the personal information TECHi® collects about you. This page spells out what we collect, why, and — most importantly — how you exercise every right the statute gives you. No dark patterns. No lawyer fog.
Production data flow
What TECHi actually runs
TECHi is a product of TechAbout LLC. There is no TECHi Media LLC. Subscriptions, privacy requests, advertiser contracts, and contributor employment sit with TechAbout LLC. This list is generated from the application configuration, not from the media kit.
Live
Account passwords
Creating an email account collects a password. Payload stores a one-way hash used only to sign the person in. The plaintext password is not kept, and it is not sent to analytics or advertisers.
Google Analytics 4
When NEXT_PUBLIC_GA_MEASUREMENT_ID is set, gtag.js records page views after the first interaction. This is site measurement. It is not an advertising pixel and it does not receive passwords.
Stripe checkout
Paid Learn seats and analyst subscriptions use Stripe. Card numbers stay with Stripe. TechAbout LLC is the merchant.
Server logs
Requests carry an IP address, user agent, referrer, path, and time. Logs stay on infrastructure TechAbout operates, behind Cloudflare.
First-party affiliate redirects
Some outbound partner links pass through a first-party /go/ redirect so the click can be counted. That redirect is not a cross-site advertising pixel.
Not in production
On-site ad server
The application does not load an ad server, Google Ad Manager, Prebid, or AdSense. Display, programmatic, and in-article ad units are not for sale.
Advertising cookies
No advertising cookie is set by this application.
Advertising and retargeting pixels
Facebook Pixel, TikTok Pixel, and other cross-site advertising pixels are not installed. Advertisers cannot drop a conversion pixel on the site.
Cross-context behavioral advertising
Hashed identifiers and on-site behavior are not shared with advertising partners for ads on other sites. TECHi does not sell personal information.
Scope
Who this notice is for.
This notice supplements our general Privacy Policy and explains how the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act of 2020 (CPRA) apply to you when you visit TECHi®, subscribe to our newsletters, or use our tools and calculators.
It applies to “consumers” as California defines the term — any natural person who is a California resident. If you live somewhere else, the general Privacy Policy and, where relevant, our GDPR Compliance notice apply to you instead.
What we collect
Categories of personal information.
California law defines twelve statutory categories of personal information. Here is exactly which ones TECHi® has collected about California residents in the last twelve months — and, just as importantly, which ones we do not touch.
Identifiers
CollectedName, email, IP address, account ID, cookie IDs, device identifiers.
Customer records
CollectedBilling address and payment information when you subscribe or purchase.
Protected classification
Not collectedAge-band, gender, nationality — only when you voluntarily supply it.
Commercial information
CollectedSubscription tier, purchase history, tools and calculators you use.
Biometric information
Not collectedFingerprints, voiceprints, retina scans, gait patterns.
Internet or network activity
CollectedPages visited, referring URLs, session duration, clickstream, search queries.
Geolocation data
CollectedApproximate location derived from IP address (country and region only).
Sensory information
Not collectedAudio, video, or visual recordings.
Professional or employment information
CollectedJob title or employer, but only if you submit it through careers or advertising forms.
Non-public education information
Not collectedStudent records governed by FERPA.
Inferences
CollectedReading preferences, stock watchlist interests, newsletter segment assignment.
Sensitive personal information
CollectedAccount passwords are collected and stored as one-way hashes so the account can sign in. We do not keep the plaintext password. We do not collect government IDs, precise geolocation, racial or religious origin, union membership, health, sex life, or sexual orientation.
Where it comes from
Four sources, no mystery.
Directly from you
When you register, subscribe, comment, submit a contact or careers form, or opt in to our newsletter.
Automatically from your device
Via the cookies and log files listed in the production data-flow inventory: essential session cookies, server logs, and Google Analytics 4 page views when that measurement id is configured. Advertising pixels are not installed.
From trusted third parties
Stripe processes payments. Google Analytics 4 measures page views when configured. We do not receive advertising-pixel data, and we do not take hashed identifiers back from an ad network.
Public and commercial sources
Press releases, SEC filings, and public business directories when those touch on our editorial coverage.
Why we use it
Six legitimate business purposes.
Deliver the TECHi website, newsletters, tools, and calculators you request.
Authenticate your account, process payments, and prevent fraud or abuse.
Personalize article recommendations and your Popular This Week feed.
Measure editorial performance — which stories resonate and where to invest.
Measure which pages are read. We do not serve interest-based or cross-context ads.
Comply with legal obligations, respond to lawful requests, and enforce our Terms.
Sale & sharing
Does TECHi® sell your personal information?
We do not sell personal information for money. We also do not share hashed identifiers or on-site behavior for cross-context behavioral advertising. That system is not in the production configuration.
You have an unconditional right to opt out of this sharing. Click the persistent “Your Privacy Choices” link in the site footer, or transmit the Global Privacy Control signal from your browser. We recognize GPC as a valid opt-out request under California law and honor it automatically, session to session.
Your rights
Six rights. Every California resident. No fine print.
Right to know
Ask us for the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you over the past twelve months, plus the sources, purposes, and any third parties we disclosed it to.
Right to delete
Request that we delete personal information we have collected from you — subject to the narrow exceptions California law allows (completing a transaction, detecting security incidents, legal compliance).
Right to correct
Ask us to correct inaccurate personal information we maintain about you. We will use commercially reasonable efforts to verify and update the record.
Right to opt out of sale or sharing
Direct us to stop selling or sharing personal information. The production configuration does not sell personal information and does not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We still honor a Global Privacy Control signal as an opt-out.
Right to limit sensitive information
Limit how we use sensitive personal information. The sensitive data we process is an account password hash, and we use it only to authenticate that account.
Right to non-discrimination
Exercise any of the rights above without us denying service, charging different prices, or giving you a lower-quality experience. If we ever offer a financial incentive, it will be clearly disclosed and opt-in.
How to exercise your rights
Four steps. Real humans. Free of charge.
Submit a verifiable request
Step 1Email privacy@techi.com with the subject line “California Privacy Request,” or mail the request to our Wyoming address below. Tell us which right you are exercising (know / delete / correct / opt out).
Help us verify you
Step 2We match the request to at least two or three data points already on file — typically account email, recent article interactions, and billing details for paid subscribers. We never ask for a government ID unless the request is unusually sensitive.
We confirm within 10 days
Step 3You will receive an acknowledgement within ten (10) business days summarizing the request and our verification status.
Full response within 45 days
Step 4We substantively respond within forty-five (45) calendar days. If we need more time, we will tell you — California law allows one 45-day extension when reasonably necessary.
Authorized agents
Someone else can file on your behalf.
You may designate an authorized agent — a law firm, privacy service, or a trusted individual — to submit a request for you. We ask for two things: a written permission signed by you, and independent verification of your identity. Businesses registered with the California Secretary of State can act as agents without individual designations.
Verification
How we confirm it is really you.
Verification scales with the sensitivity of the request. A right-to-know summary uses two matching data points (email + account activity). A right-to-delete uses three, and a right-to-know for specific pieces of personal information requires a signed declaration under penalty of perjury, as California regulations require.
Other California protections
Three more statutes, three more rights.
Shine the Light
California Civil Code § 1798.83 lets you ask, once a year, whether TECHi® shared personal information with third parties for their direct marketing. We do not — so the answer is always zero — but we respond in writing within thirty days if you ask.
Minors under 16
A person who created a TECHi account. The account holder must be at least 16. There is no 13–15 opt-in account. A person under 16 named on a Learn enrollment. A child learner does not get a login, a password, or a public profile. A registered user, at least 16, who owns a child learner’s Learn seat, payment, consent, and messages. The child does not sign in. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context advertising. If we find that a child created a normal account, we delete it.
No financial incentives
TECHi® does not offer financial incentives in exchange for collecting, selling, or sharing personal information. If that ever changes, the program terms and a clear opt-in flow will be disclosed on this page first.
Retention
How long we keep data.
- Account data. Kept while the account is active. After you delete it, 30 days of cold storage in case the deletion was a mistake, then a permanent purge.
- Comments and posts. Kept while the account is active. Anonymised when the account is deleted.
- Server logs. About 30 days, on the OVH servers that host the app.
- Payment records. 7 years, because the IRS requires that window. Card numbers stay at Stripe.
- Email logs. 90 days at the SMTP provider.
- Newsletter addresses. Removed after 90 days without a send you opened or a click, or sooner if you unsubscribe.
- Child course records. Kept only while the guardian account keeps the enrollment, then deleted with that account unless a longer legal hold applies. Payment records that name the guardian follow the 7-year rule.
- Recruitment data. Kept for 24 months after the application is closed, then deleted, unless a hiring dispute or a legal hold requires longer.
- Anything else. Deleted within 12 months of its last useful purpose.
Updates
When this notice changes.
We revisit this notice at least once a year. Material changes — new categories of collection, new third-party sharing, new rights — are announced at the top of this page and by email to subscribers at least fourteen days before they take effect.
